Mrs. Mopelola Akeju

Director, Consumer Education

Mrs. Mopelola Olubunmi Akeju, the Director of Consumer Education is a 1983 graduate of Pharmacy from the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University), Ile – Ife. Osun State, Nigeria; she holds a Master of Science Degree in Pharmacognosy from the same University. She further proceeded to University of Mississippi, University, USA where she obtained another Master degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences. In the course of her career path in the Council, Mrs. Akeju has also undergone various refresher courses on Pharmacy, Food safety, Message development & communication and Management among others.

Mrs. Akeju has worked as Hospital and Superintendent Pharmacists and Research Fellow in the National Institute for Pharmaceutical Research & Development (NIPRD) before she joined the Services of the Consumer Protection Council (CPC) in 2001 as a Chief Scientific Officer in the Department of Awareness & Quality Development.

Mrs. Akeju rose through the ranks to become Deputy Director, Quality Assurance & Development in year 2010, where she was responsible for coordination of quality assessment of Consumer products and services, to ensure their compliance with established standards. She has been representing the Council in various National Technical Committees for the development of National Policies on Drugs and Food Safety, National Biosafety Management Agency Act, and the Committee on campaign for patronage of made-in- Nigeria products. She was deployed to the Department of Consumer Education, the department responsible for consumer enlightenment in acting capacity and later became the substantive Director of the Department.

She is a member of some Professional bodies such as Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN), Association of Lady Pharmacists (ALPS), Institute of Public Analysts of Nigeria (IPAN) and Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM).

Mrs. Akeju hails from Eripa in Boluwaduro Local Government Area (LGA), Osun State.
